Overview and application
The medical world has always been evolving with the help of science and technology. With scanning technologies such as X-ray, computerized tomography (CT) scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), etc., they allow medical professionals to have an idea of the patient’s internal conditions without opening up the patients.
With hundreds of patients requiring imaging on a daily basis, and only a handful of imaging machines in a hospital, more compact, mobile imaging machines have been developed. The portable compact imaging machines can go to patients, instead of patients coming to where the machines are. Patients with a disability injury can stay in bed while the imaging machine goes to their bedside to complete the image scan.
Challenges
The portable compact x-ray scanning machine needs to be mobile, scan, output to a monitor, and have enough processing power to analyze the images scanned.
The ability to distinguish before and after images, and make decisions to predict possible metastasized or other pathological changes require a massive database and significant AI processing power. In computing terms, more processing power means more heat generation. The ability to move around the hospital and attend to each patient at their bedside is a plus, but this would mean the system will need to endure shock and vibration along the way as if it is positioned in a vehicle.
The system going into the workstation also needs to have a high-definition video output to a high-resolution monitor for doctors to analyze and share with patients their scanned results. At the same time, the system will require wireless communication capabilities can upload the scanned images back to the storage server for future references.
Solution

The customer came across Neousys' Nuvo-8108GC series that can utilize Intel’s Xeon 8-core/ 16-thread processors and supports up to 128GB of ECC memory which is of great benefit to AI inference processing. Best of all, compared to traditional 2U/ 3U servers, the Nuvo-8108GC series is approximately one-third the size, while retaining similar processing power, and expandability to add on function cards. Nuvo-8108GC series comes with expansion PCIe slots for installing a 10/ 5/ 2.5Gbps Ethernet or there are mini-PCIe expansion slots for WiFi or LTE module installations to wirelessly upload scanned data.
When pushed to the limit, the system employs a patented guided cool air and wind tunnel design to pull in cold air directly over the concentrated heat-generating area. This ensures a wide temperature operation range of -25°C to 60°C without significant performance degradation.
