Neousys Technology Announced Patented Intelligent Supercapacitor-based Power Backup Technology

Neousys Technology today announced their patented intelligent supercapacitor-based power backup technology, SuperCap UPS. Using supercapacitors, unique Neousys' patented architecture and CAP energy management, the device can operate in harsh environments from -25 to 65°C and has extremely high durability lasting up to 10 years.

Supercapacitor is a high-capacity capacitor with capacitance values much higher than other capacitors that bridges the gap between electrolytic capacitors and rechargeable batteries. The emerging category of capacitors offer 10-100 times the energy density than electrolytic capacitors. In addition, it has a wide temperature operating range (-40 to 85℃) and long operating life (10 years or 500,000 charge-discharge cycles). These two traits help make Neousys' SuperCap UPS a reliable industrial power backup solution.

To design and create a reliable supercapacitor-based power system requires fundamental techniques such as charge/ discharge control, active load balance and DC/ DC regulation. But the real challenge is how to get the most out of the capacitor energy while ensuring the system shuts down safely during the blackout. Neousys' patented CAP energy management technology features an incorporated microprocessor along with supercapacitor and charge/ discharge controller. The proprietary firmware embedded in the MCU monitors system energy consumption and can extend the back-up time during unforeseen power outages and initiates a proper system shutdown process to preserve data integrity.

In addition, compared to traditional battery-based UPS systems, Neousys' SuperCap UPS power backup module sustains superb reliability in extreme temperature environments and eliminates the drawback of battery performance degradation over time.

Neousys has two intelligent supercapacitor-based power backup modules, one is a plug-and-play PCIe card; the other is a standalone SuperCap UPS module. The PCIe card module has 2500 watt-second energy capacity and is specifically designed for Neousys’ controllers. The standalone SuperCap UPS model, PB-9250J series, is compatible with all box-PCs and it has three versatile operating modes for vertical applications such as ignition control for in-vehicle controllers. The Neousys PB-9250J series is expected to be released in Q2 of 2019.
