Neousys IGT Series Help Reshape Hagerstown Water & Power Utilities by Moving Data to the Cloud

The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system is a control architecture that consists of networked computers and user interfaces for high-level process supervisory management. The system utilizes peripheral devices such as programmable logic controller (PLC) and discrete proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller to interface with the process plant or machinery collecting relevant data and sending them back through the connected network.
Hagerstown is a city in Washington County, Maryland, United States, with a population around forty thousand. Facing staff reduction and legacy SCADA system reliability issues for its waste water, power and light department, the search for better options directed them to IoT International which provided an effective cloud solution that offered significant savings and efficiency improvements.
Water Department
A key factor in implementing IGT-20 is the ability to communicate with the PLC systems via the Modbus. The communication protocol is mainly used for data acquisition and control components in process automation systems. Neousys IGT series plays an important role and is primarily used for SCADA systems to communicate with Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs). Acting as the IoT gateway, IGT-20 collects the data and uploads the information onto the SkyView cloud where systems are monitored via the dashboard.
The water department legacy equipment had spectrum radios that were unreliable and needed replacement. Wanting to retain as much of the legacy SCADA system as possible, the water department chose Neousys Technology’s IGT-20 IoT gateway with Sierra wireless cellular module with data SIM card to communicate with PLC to upload the collected data to SkyView cloud.
Power Department
The power department decided to replace all their legacy SCADA systems and track over 3000 data points with Neousys IGT-20 IoT gateway. The benefits of the new systems were almost immediate where the read out data also showed voltage sags from their supplier.
A customized SkyView cloud dashboard (example shown below) built for each department allows for information monitoring with the installed IGT-20 IoT gateway constantly uploading data onto the cloud.
Neousys IGT Industrial IoT Gateway
Capable of operating wide temperature range and thriving in harsh environments, Neousys IGT gateways can send/ receive data through 4G network. Powered by IoT International Real-time IoT (RiOT) Engine and commonly used industrial protocols, such as DNP3, MODBUS RTU/ TCP, OPC, SNMP; it communicates with Motorola MOSCAD to reliably stream data onto the cloud or central computer.
